BILL PAYMENT POLICY
 
The City Utility Bill for sewer, water and trash, is sent out at the beginning of each quarter for the previous 3 months.
Bills go out January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1.
 

These are due by the 25th of the same month billed.  If you choose our 1/2 pmt plan, the first 1/2 of your bill is due.

Month bill is due - on the 26th day after billing a 1.5% late fee is added to the existing balance and

    a SECOND NOTICE is sent out.

Next month - the second 1/2 pay is due on the 25th and on the 26th day another 1.5% late fee is added.  

71 days after billing Shut Off Notices via certified mail. A $25.00 Service fee is added to your bill in addition to

   the 1.5% late fee.

Delinquent payments with interest and penalty shall be paid the City Office by 12:00 noon of the day of the

   actual shut-off to avoid discontinuance of water service.

86 days after billing, water is shut off to those with unpaid bills. 

Call the office if you do not receive a bill within a reasonable amount of time. It is considered delivered if not

   returned to the Office.

The City Summer Taxes will be mailed out July 1, 2016.  Huron County is responsible for mailing out the City taxes.  

If you have notified us that your taxes are paid by your mortgage company, they will also receive a copy of your tax bill.

You may make payments on your taxes (or pay in full) after July 1, 2016 until the due date of September 14, 2016.

Taxes must be received by the City Office by 4:00 p.m. September 14, 2016.   Postmarks are NOT accepted as 

payment dates.   

Provided by PA206 of 1893, certain qualifying taxpayers may defer the payment of their 2016 summer taxes until 

February 14, 2017.  Taxes may be deferred on a principal residence (100% homestead) if:

       Household income did not exceed $40,000 in 2015 AND

       The taxpayer qualifies as defined in the General Property Tax Act as one or more of the following:

            Citizen, 62 yrs or older, including the unmarried surviving spouse of a person who was 62 yrs 

                   of age or older at the time of death.

            Paraplegic, hemiplegic or quadriplegic 

            Eligible serviceman, eligible veteran or eligible widow or widower

            Blind person

            Totally and permanently disabled

Application for deferment and additional information are available at the treasurer's office.  Applications must

be filed by 4:00 p.m. of September 14, 2016.
